Antique Westmoreland white opalescent glass plate featuring Niagra Falls raised in relief. This plate is semi translucent and has a beautiful "ring of fire" when held up to a window. This earlier glass is much grayer in color than the milk glass items made later. The inner edge has a beaded border circling the plate. The outside edge is scalloped and reticulated. Westmoreland produced this plate between 1900-1904. It was part of their "Opal Novelties" line which included the Garfield Memorial, Cupid and Psyche, Easter Chick and Donkey, all the same size with identical decorated rims. During this time, Westmoreland Glass was called "Westmoreland Specialty Company" and didn't start marking their glass until 1910. Some of these plates were cold painted in gold and there is some evidence that this plate is one of them. The plate is in amazing condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Some guild remains on plate. See listing & pictures for condition and details.
